The most comprehensive resources for learning
about parapsychology are still books. My book, Parapsychology:
The Controversial Science (Ballantine), is a great place
to start, but unfortunately that is out of print. So, until the
new version comes out you may actually have to visit a library
for that. Another good book (though not as broad in scope as mine)
is Dean Radins The Conscious Universe (HarperCollins).
You can easily find that at Amazon or through your local bookseller.
On the web, there is an amazing amount information
on parapsychology to be had, but, sadly, much of it isnt
very reliable. Below are a selection of links that I consider
reliable sources of information. It is certainly not every link
I consider useful, but it represents a variety of places to start
your searching.
General Information
The
Parapsychological Association. This is the only professional
organization for scientists and academics who are active in the
science of parapsychology. It is a restricted membership organization,
but the site has lots of information for the general public and many links.
The Society for Psychical Research. This London-based scholarly soicety is the oldest of the organizations dealing with psychical research and parapsychology but remains a very contemporary source of information.
The
Rhine Research Center. Successor to J.B. Rhines Duke
University Parapsychology Laboratory, this organization sells
books over the web and sponsors various lectures and discussion
groups. (Durham, North Carolina)
The
Parapsychology Foundation. A primarily educational organization
with an active publishing program and lecture series. (New York
City) Their web site has excellent bibliographies on parapsychological
topics in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format.
Psi
Explorer. A reliable and comprehensive web-based source of
information based on the Psi Explorer CD-ROM.
Educational Opportunities
At The University of Northampton undergraduates in psychology can take
courses in parapsychology and include parapsychological reseach in dissertations. Qualified graduate
students can pursue a Ph.D. based on parapsychology research and parapsychology is one of many topics included in the Transpersonal Psychology and Consciousness Studies MSc program.
The Koestler
Research Unit of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland admits
a very limited number of qualified candidates into a Ph.D. program
for studies that can include parapsychology.
Research Institutes (not already listed)
Intuition
Laboratories. My research institute that specializes in basic
and applied research on intuition, especially as it may involve
what we call paranormal abilities (such as extrasensory perception).
